K. and I heard the following on NPR yesterday morning, and right after the commentator said that the news would irritate Israel and the U.S., it got cut off. A few seconds later, the commentator began speaking about something else.
This piqued my curiousity.
I couldn't find it on CNN, so I googled "switzerland israel" and the only major US news source that came up was FOX news. The excerpt below is from their site, published July 3rd.
GENEVA — Switzerland said Monday that Israel has been violating international law in its Gaza offensive by heavy destruction and endangering civilians in acts of collective punishment banned under the Geneva conventions on the conduct of warfare.
"A number of actions by the Israeli defense forces in their offensive against the Gaza Strip have violated the principle of proportionality and are to be seen as forms of collective punishment, which is forbidden," the Swiss Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Since the Swiss rarely say anything about anyone, this seems... momentous. And strangely, no one knows.

Why rely on US news services?? Try www.bbcworld.com. They usually have all important pieces of news from all corners in the world. I've been using it for years, they are the only ones who have reliable news on Africa and are always up to date. By the way I sent you the article on switzerland and gaza per email!
It was very odd. Alexe and I turned to each other and waited, but the report was never continued.
So we have a news agency that bows to its supporters, and when it slips up once in a while, it is quick to erase its mistakes. Is it more surprising only because it wasn't Fox and the current US administration this time?
This puts me in mind of the failings of people in large groups. Some take to dark orchestration, some to being darkly orchestrated. Both are more likely with large numbers.
I had a thought a couple years ago (soon after seeing Michael Moore's last film) that has stuck with me. It seems that Love has a critical mass, if that's the proper way of referring to a point at which it can no longer expand without changing into something different. Large groups of people have generally proven that they cannot be bound by the properties of Love. Hate, Jealousy, Greed, those seem to have no limiting properties. I don't understand why.
If you had to predict, which do you think would be the first thing humanity transcends: Secrecy, violence, or oppression?
(Give us a huge benefit of the doubt, and pick one.)
